Inventing Medical Devices: A perspective from India (2015)

Inventing Medical Devices: A perspective from India, by Jagdish Chaturvedi (2015)

Inventing medical devices is strife with risks and uncertainty, yet the challenge can be extremely rewarding. Developing these devices for the second largest population in the world has its own challenges, whether it be identifying a suitable need for innovation, justifying a market for the product, or financing the development and ensuring benefits for all patients. This book captures the essence of many of these challenges in a light read, suggesting ways to avoid common pitfalls, and helping readers gain a deeper understanding of the nuances involved in inventing medical devices.

Having worked with Jagdish on some of his innovations, it was a pleasure to visualize the journey in the form of simple sketches, adding humour and life to the book. My work involved developing around 40 sketches for the book and the covers. The illustrations use a simplistic comic style, depicting the challenges novice innovators face in a new field. This book is a suitable read for clinicians, engineers, designers and entrepreneurs exploring opportunities in medical device development.
